Access Innovations and Health Affairs, Improving Health and Knowledge

Access Innovations, Inc., provider of Data Harmony software solutions, is proud to announce our work with Health Affairs. Health Affairs contracted with Access Innovations to develop a comprehensive thesaurus of health policy related terminology in order to categorize all Health Affairs’ content by topics and geolocation.  This allows Health Affairs and its readers easy access to the body of content already published, as well as future additions. Health Affairs is an industry leader on health policy, health-specific information technology, and the broader environment of health and health care.

Health Affairs is published by Project HOPE, a renowned global health and humanitarian relief organization, working in over 25 countries to address the world’s greatest publish health challenges. Health Affairs offers a variety of health policy content: a journal which spans 38 volumes, blog, briefs, and multimedia. Health Affairs promotes analysis and discussion on improving health and health care, and addresses such issues as cost, quality, and access to care.

“Health Affairs publishes a wide range of content at the intersection of health, health care and policy,” says Jane Hiebert-White, Executive Publisher for Health Affairs. “Access Innovations and Data Harmony have allowed us to access and manage that information in more meaningful ways, and have helped us to highlight content as policy topics emerge in the news or in current debates..”

“Creating a taxonomical classification system for a health care policy thesaurus proved to be a unique challenge,” says Jack Bruce, lead taxonomy designer of the Health Affair’s thesaurus. “Over the duration of working with Health Affairs, we were able to construct a system for indexing and classification that better serves the needs of Health Affairs and the community they serve. The system will provide more accurate search and retrieval of data and more efficient interactions with the large and complex library of information possessed by Health Affairs.”

This allows Health Affairs to manage the data already published, at the same time placing new articles and information in the most accessible form, both for data management and reader usability. This improved visibility of important health policy content will surface relevant evidence that can inform policy discussions and health care innovation both in the U.S. and around the globe.
