Access Innovations, Inc., provider of Data Harmony software solutions, has announced it has closed its physical office and moved to a fully remote work model as part of streamlining its processes.
“Our staff is happier and more productive working from home. We can better serve our clients and respond to queries faster when we do not have to spend time commuting,” explained Heather Kotula, President and CEO.
Access Innovations has joined an estimated 26 percent of companies in the United States that are exclusively remote, according to Gallup. A study by Owl Labs and Global Workplace Analytics supports Kotula’s claim that the move is more beneficial for staff. That study found that 74 percent of employees feel happier when they work remotely, citing reasons ranging from avoiding commutes to greater flexibility and more time with their families.

Fully remote work also saves money. According to research from Harvard and Stanford, the average business can save up to $11,000 per employee per year by switching to a hybrid model, and even more with a fully remote setup.
Kotula explained the timing and primary reasons for the decision, which she made in 2024. “With our lease renewing January 31, 2026, it was an ideal time to make this change. Transitioning to a fully remote operating model reflects how our team works today and enables greater flexibility, resilience, and productivity. This approach allows us to access a broader talent pool, supports employee satisfaction, and reduces our environmental footprint. We believe this model better aligns our operations with the future of work.”
“The transition involved ensuring the infrastructure to move the company to a fully remote model. These were both the computer infrastructure, since we host most clients’ systems, and now, of course, full staffing. All servers moved to the cloud early in 2025 and were thoroughly tested. We ensured all systems were operating in parallel first, then cut to fully remote. Once that was completed, we moved the staffing operations to ensure the stability and security of working via VPN. The staff meetings, communication, and reporting methods we learned during Covid proved we could operate efficiently and effectively and remain a team once we became fully remote. All businesses require a physical footprint, so we have an address of record with significant security,” added Marjorie Hlava, Founder and Chief Scientist at Access Innovations.
“The transition has not been without its challenges. The biggest challenge was what to do with the vast historical printed collection. That required serious curation and thought. Additional details about the disposition of the archive and library will be provided soon,” Kotula said.
“It was a lot of work, but it was worth it because it gave us the opportunity to truly understand and appreciate how and why we were founded, the ways we have been able to innovate our products and services over the years to keep up with changing technology, and the truly special group of clients we continue to serve,” she concluded.
