Baltimore, MD (March 7, 2013) – Part 2 of the new international thesaurus standard, ISO 25964, was published March 4th, 2013 by the International Organization for Standardization. ISO 25964, “Thesauri and Interoperability with other Vocabularies Part 1: Thesauri for Information Retrieval” was published in 2011, and covers standards for thesaurus construction and presentation. Part 2, “Interoperability with Other Vocabularies,” covers supplementing thesauri with complementary use of vocabularies, providing key characteristics of each vocabulary type, the semantic components and relationships supported by the vocabulary type, and, where applicable, guidelines for mapping the vocabulary to a thesaurus constructed to the standard of Part 1.
