Enterprises

Harnessing the Knowledge generated in a organization for reuse and reference is an increasing challenge.  “Information overload” is part of our daily realities as more is generated and distributed.  Vast amounts of information are now available electronically. The sheer volume of information is overwhelming. Modern enterprises tend to lose track of how much time is spent looking for necessary documents, and that time spent can be just as overwhelming.  More than 25% of staff time is now spent looking for items in the corporate repositories.

The key is to leveraging these information-rich assets while significantly improving staff productivity rests with making the information easy to access, share and mine.  The solution is through effective subject metadata based on a taxonomy. A robust taxonomy provides semantic richness to information resources, supplementing them with conceptual associations, synonyms, descriptive notes, and more.  With a rich and reliable vocabulary, efficient metadata tagging, website navigation, and taxonomy enabled search, corporations regain control over their critical information assets.

Access Innovations provides the services and accompanying tools to make this possible.  They are available solely as services, as Cloud, as SaaS, as client server software, or as combinations. If you would like more information on any project, or have an information need please call 505-998-0800 or write to mhlava@accessinn.com

Abt Associates, Inc.

Abt Associates needed a CD-ROM with digital versions of printed documents. Access Innovations did optical character recognition of scanned images, creating corresponding text documents at 99.95% accuracy. We reviewed and approved the text files and converted them to PDF files. We created background searchable text for poor quality images, and provided custom programming for bibliographic citations and tagging/linking protocols for user access, search and retrieval. We also did application design and development, including splash page text in Cyrillic and CD artwork, inlays, and user information. We created a CD-ROM master and prepared 2000 replications ready for mailing.

Accessible Archives

Accessible Archive sought to create a single, content enriched format for its nearly 400,000 highly varied documents. Working in batches by publication, Access Innovations used customized code to convert these source files from simple HTML to well formed database-friendly XML load format, including links to associated graphics and publication metadata. Close quality control ensured that each article would display reliably on screen.

Acquire Media

Acquire Media had the need for a thesaurus tailored to financial news. Access Innovations created a thesaurus based on our own NewsIndexer thesaurus but greatly expanded. We merged three different taxonomies while maintaining independence of each to support the existing data feeds for the source organizations NewsEdge and AcquireMedia. We merged both of them on to the NewsIndexer taxonomy backbone and insured mapping to IPTC, GICS, NAICS, SIC and ICD. This detailed mapping from several industry taxonomies, as well as from Acquire Media’s several proprietary taxonomies, provides a means of unifying the disparate taxonomies and of processing news from and into the terms and codes of the various taxonomies. Terms were added based on content in articles provided by Acquire Media. We also developed a comprehensive indexing rulebase for the entire thesaurus. Click here to see the full case study.

Adonis

The Elsevier-owned Adonis service was exploring new potential markets. Our experience in the newly formed Russian Commonwealth gave Access Innovations an excellent insight into the emerging markets of this new democracy. We researched and prepared a report assessing state-of-the-art information systems in the Commonwealth of Independent States (former USSR).

AGIS Network (formerly AssistGuide Information Services)

This eldercare database providing a wealth of information on the needs and care for seniors nationwide was supported by creating a taxonomy and associated indexing rulebase to support the enhanced search and enrich the semantics of the AGIS Network’s website. We also converted approximately 150,000 data records for processing using Data Harmony's Machine Aided Indexer (M.A.I.) and Thesaurus Master. Editors provided rule building and quality control. Click here for a full case study of this project.

Alabama Power and Light

Alabama Power and Light needed to convert corporate real estate and pipeline records, including right of way documentation. Access Innovations provided consulting resulting in a workflow for records conversion and database design and creation. We then converted the data for automated records retrieval from the full records library of documents for the full coverage area of Alabama Power and Light.
