Margie HlavaMarjorie M.K. Hlava, President and Chairman

Marjorie M.K. Hlava is President, Chairman, and founder of Access Innovations, Inc. Very well known in the international information arena, she is the founding Chair of the new SLA Taxonomy Division established in August 2009. She is past president of NFAIS (2002-2003), the organization of those who create, organize, and distribute information. Ms. Hlava is past president of the American Society for Information Science and Technology - 1993 (ASIST) and the 1996 recipient of ASIST's prestigious Watson Davis Award, twice a member of the Board of Directors of SLA (formerly known as the Special Libraries Association) where she was awarded the President’s Award for her standards work, 5 year member of the Board of the National Information Standards Organization (NISO), past president of ASIDIC, past President of the Board of Documentation Abstracts, and has held numerous other positions in these and other organizations. She has published more than two hundred articles and books on information science topics. She was a member of the Z39.19 2005 Controlled Vocabulary and the Z39.84 Dublin Core standard development teams. She serves on the Content Board for NISO, is a member of NKOS. Her research areas include furthering the productivity of content creation and the governance layer for information access through automated indexing, thesaurus development, taxonomy creation, natural language processing, machine translations, and machine aided indexing. She has given countless presentations domestically and internationally, including keynote addresses. She has given workshops and lectures on thesaurus development, taxonomy creation, natural language processing, machine translations, and machine aided indexing, and other knowledge organization systems (KOS) topics.

Jay Van EmanDr. Jay Ven Eman, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer

Jay Ven Eman, Ph.D., joined Access Innovations in December, 1978. He holds a B. A. in Finance from the University of Washington in Seattle, an M.B.A. from the University of New Mexico, and a doctorate in business from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He uses his dissertation topic of Long range Planning and Organizational Effectiveness in Hospitals to good advantage at Access. As Chief Executive Officer, he has contributed to every aspect of the business. At Access he guides the sales, marketing and strategic planning departments. Access Innovations' database production services where he was responsible for the design and conversion of large, legacy databases for a variety of government and private organizations. He writes, conducts workshops, consults, and helps build large scale, complex, information rich databases. A past president of ASIDIC, Jay is a popular speaker and has given many presentations, workshops and seminars on ontologies, topic maps, database development, legacy file conversions, SGML, HTML, XML, and other related topics.

AliceAlice Redmond-Neal, Chief Taxonomist and Data Harmony Training Manager

Alice joined Access Innovations in 1995. She has been involved in editorial activity for over 50 projects, including development of knowledge domains, abstracting, indexing, and term mapping. She has produced over 20 thesauri in subject areas ranging from technical to general interest topics. She has also trained clients and coworkers in the use of Data Harmony content management software. Alice has published papers and presented workshops at ASIS&T, SLA, Taxonomy Boot Camp, the American Society for Indexing, and other venues.


Leland YatesLeland Yates

Leland started with Access Innovations as a C programmer for the National Information Center for Educational Media bibliographic data base in 1990. Yates later became involved in various projects as either project manager or as project start up analyst. He became Special Projects Manager for Access Russia, working with the VINITI ERTRANS machine translation software, data base procurement, and the Access Russia CD-ROM product covering Russian science, business, and legislation. Subsequently Yates was appointed Director of Computer Services managing the programming, data processing, systems administration and resource allocation for both in house and external client needs. Currently, as Director of Enterprise Business Development, Yates works with customer relation management.

Yumiko Yates

Yumiko Yates

Yumiko has been working for Access Innovations since 1996. She worked on numerous data processing projects, including HTML/XML data, scanning and computer room operations. She maintains the workflow of legacy database conversion. She was the official English Japanese translator/interpreter for Albuquerque Public School (1995-2000) and gave translation services to local businesses. She also works for a Japanese publishing company as a writer.


Annette Grant

Annette has been with Access Innovations, Inc. since 2000. Hired as a Programmer, Annette converted client data for load into Data Harmony, created Data Harmony projects, produced reports detailing status of projects, and interacted with clients. This experience led to her promotion to Production Manager of Services. As Production Manager, Annette is responsible for the development and completion of customer projects. This is accomplished through interaction with clients to affirm the specifications of the individual tasks and then pursue the best course of action to meet their needs. She oversees the interaction with team members to accomplish the goals of the project, performs the analysis of budget and time allocations, and, the establishment of project criteria. In addition to customer projects, Annette is also responsible for the support of the Data Harmony software.

Tao Liu

Tao is the lead software developer at Access Innovations Inc. He has worked for Access Innovations since 2005 and is now focusing on the Data Harmony software suite, including the Metadata Extractor module, and SharePoint integration. He provides support for marketing, analyzes customer requests, and writes project proposals. Tao has also been a major supporter of the Concept Extraction System that is running at Singapore National Library.

Barbara Gilles

Barbara is a taxonomist, editor, and technical writer. She has been with Access Innovations since 1998. Barbara is a member of SLA and the Association of Proposal Management Professionals. In her spare time, she plays cello and tries to play guitar and bagpipes.
